Founded in 2006, Laboptimizer Ltd. is a privately owned company that provides FreeLIMS, an open source LIMS that is provided at no cost.

FreeLIMS allows users to manage samples, create sample types from methods and parameters, generate reports and certificates, and manage laboratory instruments. Ic can acquire data from all types of measurement instruments , including HPLC, ICP-OES, AAS, GC, MS, etc.

FreeLIMS runs on popular databases such as MySQL, Oracle and SQL-Server. It can also be connected to ERP systems.

FreeLIMS is a client/server solution with multi user capabilities. It is licensed under the GNU General Public License (GPL) and is written in JAVA. Users can add whatever language required to the system by simply adding the translation to a database table.

In June 2008, FreeLIMS has announced a new version of their LIMS, known as Labmatica LIMS. The LIMS is now available under a dual license model. This means there are two different products which are based on the same core source code: 1) Labmatica LIMS (commercial license), and 2) Labmatica FreeLIMS (GNU/GPL). The new version has no datamodel changes compared to the last 0.9.9.6 FreeLIMS version. Therefore users can just replace the client program and it will work as before. In addition, a new feature allows users to add/drop parameters "on the fly" to an existing sample.
